Clayton County Woman Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2018 Fatal Armed Robbery

Clayton County District Attorney Tasha M. Mosley announced the conviction of Ashanti Leandrea Dorsey on multiple charges, including two counts of Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and two counts of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.

A jury found Dorsey, a known prostitute, guilty of luring Mario Edwards to an abandoned apartment in Clayton County on December 19, 2018, with co-defendants Cameron Jones and Kiera Williams. Upon Edwards’ arrival, Dorsey and Jones, armed with a handgun and taser, assaulted him, taking his wallet, phone, cash, and car keys. Dorsey then shot Edwards in the stomach, leaving him to die alone in the abandoned apartment. Edwards’ body was discovered on December 21, 2018.

The trial, prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys La’Carrian Blount and Travis McDowell, concluded on October 25, 2024. Major Case Investigator Dwayne Harrison and Victim Advocates Kennedy Smith and Nerissa Sims contributed to the case. Presiding Superior Court Judge Aaron B. Mason sentenced Dorsey to life in prison with the possibility of parole, plus an additional consecutive five years.

“This verdict reflects our commitment to ensuring justice and upholding the safety of our community,” Mosley stated. “The sentence serves as a reminder that violent crime has serious consequences in Clayton County.”
