Pedestrian Fatally Struck After Running Into Traffic on Highway 212 in Newton County

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal incident on Highway 212 as 58-year-old Daryll Moss of Covington. The incident took place on the evening of October 18, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, Moss was driving a Cadillac Escalade southbound on Highway 212 when he pulled off to the side of the road and activated his vehicle’s emergency flashers. After exiting the vehicle, Moss unexpectedly ran into the northbound lanes of traffic and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, who was accompanied by two passengers, reported that Moss ran directly into their path, leaving them no time to avoid the collision. Moss was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Sheriff Ezell Brown extended his condolences to the family of Mr. Moss during this difficult time.
