16-Year-Old Arrested in May Fatal Shooting During Decatur Repast

On May 24, 2024, DeKalb County Police officers responded to the 2000 block of Chestnut Hill Circle in Decatur following reports of a shooting. Officers found a 29-year-old woman who had been shot. Despite being taken to a hospital by friends, she succumbed to her injuries. The victim was later identified as Sametria McCord, 29, by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The shooting occurred during a repast for a family member, with witnesses reporting that the gunfire came from several houses away. McCord, who was standing with the crowd, was struck by the gunfire.

Although detectives identified the suspect soon after the incident, it took time to gather the necessary evidence to ensure a successful conviction. On Wednesday, October 9th, after completing their investigation, a 16-year-old suspect was arrested. Due to the suspect’s age, their identity has not been released.
