Two Arrested After Firearm Theft from Vehicles in Atlanta, Loaded Guns Recovered

In the early hours of October 4, 2024, Atlanta Police Zone 6 officers responded to a vehicle break-in near 395 Chamberlain St. SE, where a firearm had been reported stolen. During their search, officers found two suspects, 20-year-old Major McKee and 23-year-old Jaaziah Summerbell, hiding behind a dumpster. In the immediate vicinity, police recovered three loaded firearms, all with a round in the chamber. Two of the weapons were confirmed to have been stolen from vehicles in the area.
McKee faces several charges, including Entering Automobile with Intent to Commit Theft, Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Theft by Taking, and Criminal Trespass. Summerbell, already a convicted felon, was also charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in addition to Entering Automobile with Intent to Commit Theft and other related offenses.
The Atlanta Police Department emphasized the importance of securing firearms, noting that many criminals in Atlanta gain access to guns left unsecured in vehicles. They urged gun owners to prevent this by never leaving firearms in glove compartments, under seats, or on the floorboards of cars. The department highlighted that unsecured firearms left in vehicles contribute significantly to violence in the city.
