Texas 12-Year-Old Faces Charges After Making Bomb Threats to Georgia Schools
A 12-year-old from Texas is facing charges after making bomb threats to two schools in southwest Georgia last week. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has identified the child as the responsible party following an investigation.
On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Miller County Middle School staff received a Facebook message claiming there was a bomb on campus. The Miller County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance. GBI bomb technicians cleared the school without finding any explosives, while other agents and intelligence analysts worked to trace the source of the message.
The following day, Thursday, September 12, 2024, staff at Spring Creek Charter Academy in Bainbridge, Georgia, discovered an email alleging a bomb threat similar to the previous day’s incident. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office sought GBI help with the investigation. The school was also cleared without any explosives being found.
Investigators, after analyzing the messages and conducting interviews, identified the 12-year-old from Texas as the individual responsible for both threats. There is no evidence that the child traveled to Georgia recently, and there is no indication of any actual safety risk at either school.
The successful resolution of this case is attributed to the prompt response and coordination among local and state law enforcement agencies and the school districts involved.
Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the GBI Thomasville Office at 229-225-4090. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at GBI Tip Submission, or through the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
The minor will face prosecution in Texas, with potential additional local charges if the investigation uncovers any accomplices or conspirators involved in the hoaxes.
