Athens Police Recover Stolen Electronics, Arrest New Jersey Man in Package Theft Ring

Athens-Clarke County Police detectives discovered that a vehicle linked to multiple package thefts across Georgia had entered Athens. Utilizing Flock tag readers and surveillance, officers from the Criminal Investigations Division, East/West Patrol, and the Gang Unit identified the vehicle at an Airbnb in Athens.

A search warrant led to the recovery of nine new iPhones, three new Samsung Galaxy phones, and an Apple Watch. The suspects had been following delivery drivers and stealing packages.

Abraham Castro-Araujo, 21, of New Jersey, was arrested and charged with Theft By Receiving. The investigation into additional suspects is ongoing, with anticipated charges from other jurisdictions.
