Man Wanted for Battery and Parole Violation Escapes After High-Speed Chase in Stephens County
On Friday night, August 30th, around 11:30 p.m., deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office received a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert from Franklin County regarding a white Chevrolet Tracker driven by a white male identified as Rocky Garrett. Garrett, 54, of Toccoa, was involved in a physical domestic dispute in Franklin County.
Due to Garrett having an outstanding parole warrant in Stephens County, deputies set up surveillance at his last known address. They observed Garrett’s white Chevrolet Tracker leaving the residence. When deputies attempted to follow the vehicle, Garrett sped off, and deputies briefly lost sight of the vehicle. They later located it abandoned in the driveway of a residence on North Red Rock Road.
The SCSO’s STING Unit responded to the scene with a K-9 unit, and GSP Aviation was called in to assist. Despite an extensive search, Garrett managed to elude law enforcement. After a thorough search, the area was cleared by both the K-9 unit and GSP Aviation.
Garrett has outstanding felony warrants from Franklin County for Aggravated Battery and Terroristic Threats and Acts. He also has an outstanding warrant in Stephens County for violating his parole related to crimes committed in 2006, including Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Obstructing Law Enforcement Officers, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Crime.
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to call 911 if they notice any suspicious activity or persons in the area. They also advise citizens to keep their vehicles locked and homes secured. For non-emergency situations, citizens can contact the 911 non-emergency line at (706) 779-3911.
