Deputy Wounded and Suspect Killed in Eastman Gunfire Exchange

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an investigation at the request of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office following an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a local resident and injury to an officer.

On August 27, 2024, at approximately 9:40 a.m., police received a 911 call about livestock or animals in the roadway at the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Mt. Moriah Street. The responding deputy was en route to contact residents at an address in the 5000 block of Dodge Avenue, close to the intersection. Upon arrival, the deputy encountered Kim Lawong Crocker, 58, of Eastman, who was armed with a firearm. An exchange of gunfire occurred between the deputy and Crocker. The deputy sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Crocker was pronounced dead at the scene.
