Ex-Husband Attacks Family with Gasoline; Shot by Boyfriend in Albany Domestic Dispute

On August 19, 2024, Albany Police officers responded to a shooting incident at a residence in the 1000 block of Clark Avenue. Upon arrival, authorities determined that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Marcus Leander Walker, 43, entered the home of his ex-wife and poured gasoline on various items inside. When his ex-wife, her current boyfriend, and three minor children arrived home, they discovered signs of a break-in. Walker, who was hiding in a rear room, emerged and attacked his ex-wife by hitting her, soaking her clothes in gasoline, and placing her in a rear chokehold. The confrontation moved outside, where Walker was observed attempting to ignite the gasoline on his ex-wife. The current boyfriend intervened by shooting Walker.

During questioning, Walker confessed that he had planned to set the house on fire with himself inside but was interrupted when the family returned home. The shooting was ruled as justified under the Defense of Another doctrine.

Walker faces multiple charges including Burglary 1st Degree (Family Violence), Criminal Damage to Property 2nd Degree (Family Violence), Aggravated Assault (Family Violence), three counts of Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit Arson, Simple Battery, and Reckless Conduct. He is currently in stable condition at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Once released, Walker will be transferred to the Dougherty County Jail.
