Deceased 33-Year-Old Male Found at Grassy Intersection on I-285 in Dunwoody
On Monday, August 19, 2024, at 4:03 p.m., Dunwoody Police officers were dispatched to the area of I-285 Eastbound at Chamblee Dunwoody Road in reference to a welfare check. The caller reported seeing a person on the ground and not moving in the grassy area of the intersection. Officers arrived on the scene and confirmed the presence of a 33-year-old male who was deceased.
Detectives from the Dunwoody Police Department, along with personnel from the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, arrived on the scene and took over the investigation. The Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the deceased for an autopsy.
Authorities stated that there are currently no indications of foul play, but the investigation remains active. The name of the deceased will be released once proper family notifications have been made.
UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old John Mitchell. The case remains active.
UPDATE #2: The Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death for Mitchell as a drug overdose.
