Carroll County Deputy Shot During GBI Search Warrant Execution

On Tuesday, August 20th, in the morning, Carroll County Deputy Taylor Bristow was shot in the head while executing a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) search warrant at a residence off Don Rich Drive in Carrollton, Georgia. The GBI warrant was related to a child exploitation investigation.

Deputy Bristow was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reported that he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is in critical condition.

The suspect involved in the incident has been confirmed deceased by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Bristow has been with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for six years.

UPDATE – August 21, 2024 by GBI: The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Christopher Bly. After Deputies knocked on the front door. Bly opened then immediately retreated into the home, followed by the deputies. Bly produced a handgun and fired, striking himself and Deputy Bristow. Bly was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputy Bristow remains in critical condition. Evidence obtained during the investigation indicates that Bly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
