Fatal Shooting in Columbus: 17-Year-Old Arrested and Charged with Murder

On July 25, 2024, at 10:46 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Parkhill Drive regarding a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a White male, later identified as Evan Garner, 38, with no signs of life. EMS personnel arrived at the scene but were unable to resuscitate the victim. Deputy Coroner Ben Saxon pronounced Garner deceased at 11:27 p.m.

The Violent Crimes Unit was called to the scene and is leading the investigation into the incident. William Burgess, 17, was taken into custody and is charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime.
