Fourth Suspect in Athens Child Shooting Arrested in New York

On May 10th, 2024, Dakious Echols, the fourth suspect in the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old child in Athens on March 8th, was apprehended in Brooklyn, New York, as part of a joint operation involving law enforcement from various jurisdictions.

Echols faces charges including murder, aggravated assault, and violation of anti-gang laws in Georgia, as well as a federal charge for unlawful flight.

Law enforcement agencies involved in the operation include ACCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Middle Georgia FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the FBI Metro New York Safe Streets Task Force.

Echols is currently awaiting extradition in New York, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Another suspect, Desmontrez Mathis, was arrested May 2nd.
