Arrest Made in Columbus February 2023 Shooting Case

On February 10, 2023, officers on part-time duty heard a single gunshot while patrolling a business parking lot on Veterans Parkway. No victim was found, but later, Wesley Gilmore arrived at Piedmont North by private vehicle, having sustained a gunshot wound. Gilmore was listed in serious but stable condition and transferred to an Atlanta hospital.

During area canvassing, officers were informed of a male in a grey sweatshirt seen running from the area and entering a silver Hyundai. The vehicle fled north on Veterans Parkway, with officers noting part of its license plate. Subsequently, the vehicle was located, leading to the identification of the suspect as David Lamar Barnes.

Warrants were issued for Barnes for aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Barnes was arrested on May 8, 2024, and taken to Muscogee County Jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 10, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
