Troup County First Responders Successfully Execute Simulated Plane Crash Training Exercise
Local first responders and emergency personnel in Troup County joined forces on April 11th for a comprehensive training exercise aimed at testing their readiness in the event of a real-world emergency. The simulation, held at the Pineland Sheriffs’ Youth Home property on Youngs Mill Road, mimicked a plane crash scenario, complete with student volunteers from Think Academy and Troup High School acting as “victims.”
The exercise assessed the responders’ ability to manage the scene upon arrival, handle the victims, and coordinate effectively with each other. Following the initial response phase, the focus shifted to the physical transportation of the simulated victims to the Emergency Department at West Georgia, providing an additional test of the responders’ preparedness and capabilities.
Upon the exercise’s conclusion, all participants convened for a debriefing session, known as a “Hot-Wash” or After-Action Briefing, to review their experiences, observations, and identify key takeaways for future improvement. Overall, the participants expressed satisfaction with the training and looked forward to future large-scale exercises.
A multitude of agencies took part in the drill, including Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, Troup County Emergency Management, Troup County Fire Department, Troup County Sheriff’s Office, Troup County 911, and several others spanning both local and state levels. Gratitude was extended to Your Pie Pizza for providing lunch to the participants, as well as to Pineland Youth Home and the Troup County School System for their collaboration and support.
