Man Flags Down Atlanta Officers Claiming Girlfriend’s Self-Inflicted Gunshot; Arrested for Murder Later

In the early hours of April 4th, 2024, at approximately 12:27 am, Atlanta Police officers were flagged down by a male driver at the location of 21 Cleveland Ave SW. The driver informed officers that his girlfriend had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound while they were driving.

Officers discovered a female victim inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to her head. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services from Grady EMS, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide investigators took charge of the situation, transporting the male driver to APD Public Safety Headquarters for questioning.

After further investigation, Atlanta Police Homicide Detectives found probable cause to secure arrest warrants for 38-year-old Dontavious Wright for the charges of Murder, Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

Wright was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Fulton County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
