Body Found in Newton County Woods Identified as Missing 20-Year-Old
Authorities in Newton County, Georgia, have identified the body discovered on March 15, 2024, in a wooded area off Flat Shoals Road in Covington.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office, working in conjunction with the Newton County Coroner’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office, confirmed the deceased as Dequandre Smith, aged 20. Smith had been reported missing by his family on March 2, 2024.
Next of kin have been informed of the tragic discovery by Sheriff Ezell Brown, Coroner Tommy Davis, and Investigator Joshua Hicks.
The investigation remains ongoing, with the cause and manner of death pending determination.
