The Newton County Sheriff’s Office needs help locating a man from Covington.

On March 2, 2024, Dequandre Smith was reported missing from the vicinity of Flat Shoals Road in Covington, Georgia, near the water treatment facility. Smith’s last known attire consisted of a black shirt, black and red shorts, and black shoes. He is described as a black male, 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 220 lbs, with brown eyes and black hair.

UPDATE: The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) received a tip stating that an individual matching the description of Dequandre Smith was last seen on Hidden Pines Drive, Covington, GA, at approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28th. He was possibly wearing red sweatpants, white tennis shoes, and the color of his shirt/sweatshirt could not be determined. NCSO investigators have followed up on this tip but have not been able locate Mr. Smith.

Dequandre has a history of schizophrenia. The NCSO requested assistance from the Newton County Fire, Alpha Team, and Georgia State Patrol to conduct a search in the area of Flat Shoals Road. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office and Newton County Fire conducted ground searches with the assistance of Alpha Team handlers and their K-9s. GSP conducted an aerial search of the area via helicopter. Drone assistance was also rendered for the area by Alpha Team.

At this time, the NCSO has continued all search efforts to locate Mr. Smith.
