Arrest Made in Elme Apartments Shooting Case in Newton County, Second Suspect Sought

Newton County deputies have apprehended one suspect following the shooting incident that occurred at the Elme Apartments on February 25th. Robert Smith, aged 20 from Conyers, was taken into custody on February 27th. He faces multiple charges including aggravated assault (family violence), possession of a handgun during the commission of a crime, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and tampering with evidence.

The shooting incident took place around 8 p.m. on February 25th, prompting a response from Newton County deputies to the Elme Apartments in Covington, Ga., after receiving a call regarding penetrating trauma. Initial investigations indicated the incident was linked to domestic violence. Two males were found with gunshot wounds, one with minor injuries and the other with more severe injuries. Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities have also issued warrants for a second suspect believed to be involved in the February 25th shooting. Jordan Smith, aged 19 from Conyers, is wanted in connection to the incident.
