Teen in Custody, Two At Large in March Fatal Shooting in Athens That Left a Child Dead
Athens-Clarke County Police, with the assistance of Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI, arrested 17-year-old Julian Cubillos of Lawrenceville, GA, on March 8th, 2024, at 6:37 PM.
Cubillos faces charges including two counts of Murder, four counts of Aggravated Assault, and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act in connection with a shooting incident.
Further investigation led to warrants for 16-year-old Jayden Brown and 18-year-old Dakious Echols, both from Athens. They face similar charges related to the incident.
The shooting incident occurred on March 8th, around 5:37 PM, at Hallmark Mobile Home Park on Spring Valley Rd. Athens-Clarke County Police responded to a shooting where three people were injured, including one adult and two children. One child succumbed to their injuries, while the adult and another child received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. The adult’s injuries were not caused by gunfire.
Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Jerry Saulters expressed condolences, stating, “I am sickened by this heinous crime, and my heart aches for the grieving family, friends, and loved ones who are suffering such a tragic loss.” He promised full dedication to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
