South Fulton Police Department Appoints First-Ever LGBTQ+ Law Enforcement Liaison
The South Fulton Police Department has appointed Officer Kevin Turner as the City South Fulton Police Department’s inaugural LGBT Law Enforcement Liaison. This significant step aims to bridge the gap between the LGBTQ+ community and law enforcement, fostering trust, communication, and fair treatment for all.
Officer Turner’s role as an LGBT Liaison involves building trust and understanding within the LGBTQ+ community, enhancing communication channels, and ensuring equitable treatment for everyone.
“The LGBTQ+ community has historically had complex relationships with law enforcement. Having a liaison fosters a safe space for open communication and collaboration,” said a statement by the South Fulton Police Department. “This is especially crucial in Metro Atlanta, a region with a vibrant LGBTQ+ population.”
Kevin Turner, who has served with the South Fulton Police Department since 2020, recognized the need for LGBT representation within the community and law enforcement. He has dedicated himself to supporting LGBTQ+ members of law enforcement and strengthening the relationship between law enforcement agencies and the LGBTQ+ community.
Officer Turner’s commitment to this cause is underscored by his certification from Out To Protect, a nationally accredited LGBT Law Enforcement Liaison Academy.
