Dacula, GA – The Gwinnett Police Foundation is organizing a fundraiser to support Officer Daniel Ortega of the Gwinnett County Police Department, who sustained severe injuries after being struck head-on by an impaired driver several months ago.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 9, around 4:30 p.m. Officer Ortega was on Breckinridge Blvd. near Breckinridge Parkway in unincorporated Duluth when a silver sedan, exhibiting signs of impairment, entered oncoming traffic and collided with his patrol car. The impact caused extensive damage, necessitating the extraction of Officer Ortega by first responders.

Due to the collision, Officer Ortega suffered a severe injury to his leg and foot, requiring extensive surgery. Despite months of painful physical therapy, he has been unable to return to work. Officer Ortega, a husband and father to a young daughter, faces emotional and financial challenges due to the injuries, adding stress to his single-income household.

The fundraiser aims to provide assistance to Officer Daniel Ortega during his recovery and alleviate the financial burden on his family. The Gwinnett Police Foundation invites the community to contribute and support Officer Ortega and his family during this challenging time.

On Saturday, December 16, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Gwinnett Police Foundation will be hosting a fundraiser at Wild Wing Café at 3517 Braselton Highway in Dacula. All donations received will be dedicated to helping the Ortega family during this time of healing. If you cannot attend in person, donations will be accepted by visiting GwinnettPoliceFoundation.org.
