USPS Carrier Arrested for Mail Theft and Drug Use in Gwinnett County
The Gwinnett County Police Department has arrested Marcus Gregory, a USPS carrier, on charges of stealing mail, dumping mail in the woods, and using illegal drugs while delivering the mail.
On July 31, officers were contacted by the United States Postal Service (USPS) Inspector General (OIG) regarding Gregory. Investigators had been monitoring Gregory following several complaints from victims who had not received their mail. On July 31, undercover officers observed Gregory during his shift and saw him dump mail in the woods near Williams Farm Road and Highway 316. After disposing of the mail, investigators witnessed Gregory using illegal drugs in his vehicle. Officers subsequently pulled Gregory over and arrested him.
During a search of Gregory’s work vehicle, officers found additional illegal drugs and a handgun. A search of his personal vehicle at a local post office revealed 215 pieces of stolen mail. On August 3, officers executed a search warrant at Gregory’s residence, uncovering more mail.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Gwinnett County Police Department and the USPS Inspector General’s Office. Gregory has been charged with DUI drugs, possession of a schedule I narcotic, possession of a firearm during a crime, theft of stolen mail, theft by taking, and obstruction. In total, Gregory faces 51 felony warrants and 9 misdemeanor warrants.
