GBI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting After Chase in Henry County
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has launched an inquiry into an officer-involved shooting incident in Henry County, Georgia. Following a request from the Henry County Police Department on June 8, 2024, the GBI is conducting an independent investigation into the matter.
While no individuals were shot during the incident, one officer sustained injuries. A suspect, identified as Daniel Jay Waldrop, aged 31 and from McDonough, GA, is currently in custody.
Preliminary information reveals that around 4:35 p.m., Henry County Police Officers encountered a stolen truck on Business Center Drive in Stockbridge, Georgia. Upon attempting to halt the stolen vehicle, driven by Waldrop, he allegedly accelerated toward an officer’s patrol car, striking it. In response, the officer discharged their firearm, though Waldrop was not struck.
Subsequently, Waldrop fled the scene, initiating a prolonged pursuit by law enforcement officers from multiple agencies. The pursuit concluded with Waldrop’s apprehension.
The GBI’s independent investigation will continue, with findings to be forwarded to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office upon completion for review.
