Fatal Pedestrian Collision on Irwinton Road Under Investigation as Hit-and-Run

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian. The incident occurred at approximately 1:39 a.m. on Thursday and was reported to the Macon-Bibb Emergency-911 Center.

Deputies responded to Irwinton Road near Hitchcock Road, where they found an unresponsive male lying along the fog line of the road. The pedestrian, identified as James Otis Collins, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley, who has notified the next of kin.

Investigators believe Collins was struck by a motor vehicle, but the driver did not stop to report the incident. The identity of the driver and the vehicle involved are currently unknown.

Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley stated that an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
