Two Jesup Women Charged With False Reports Against Wayne County Deputy

JESUP, Georgia – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged two Jesup women with making false statements after they reported that a Wayne County Sheriff’s Office deputy sexually assaulted them while on duty.
The GBI said 20-year-old Trinity Bradley and 18-year-old Karlee Mooney each face one count of felony false statements, one count of felony conspiracy to commit a crime of false statements and one count of misdemeanor false report of a crime.
Arrest and booking
Agents arrested Mooney on Monday, November 2. Bradley turned herself in the same day. Both women were booked into the Wayne County Jail.
How the investigation began
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI on Wednesday, September 30, to investigate the women’s claims. They had said the deputy assaulted them during ride-alongs.
Preliminary information indicates Bradley and Mooney agreed to each falsely report that they were victims of sexual assault by the deputy, the GBI said. Investigators said both women made multiple false statements to the Sheriff’s Office and to the GBI.
The Sheriff’s Office placed the deputy on administrative leave while the investigation continued. The GBI did not name the deputy.
Case remains open
The GBI said the investigation is still active. Anyone with information can call the agency’s Regional Investigative Office in Kingsland at (912) 729-6198.
