Macon Jail Inmate Sentenced to 25 Years for Stabbing Fellow Inmate With Homemade Weapon

MACON, Ga. — A Bibb County jail inmate who covered his face with a T-shirt before stabbing another inmate with a homemade weapon has been sentenced to 25 years after surveillance footage helped prosecutors identify him as the attacker.
Brandon Carnell Willis pleaded guilty October 13, 2026, to aggravated assault and possession of prohibited items by inmates. He received a 25-year sentence, with 12 years to serve, under Georgia’s First Offender Act.
The attack occurred August 23, 2023, inside the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, where Willis and the victim were both being held.
Surveillance Cameras Capture Jail Stabbing
According to prosecutors, surveillance footage showed Willis walking through a cell hall before entering a cell outside the camera’s view.
When he emerged, his face was covered with a T-shirt.
Despite the attempt to conceal his identity, surveillance cameras captured identifying details, including a black band on his left wrist and pants tied into a scrunch.
The footage showed Willis repeatedly stabbing another inmate with a homemade weapon before pushing him into the shower area.
The injured inmate was later seen in the cell hall before losing consciousness.
Victim Identified Willis Before Being Taken to Hospital
Deputies responded to the stabbing and arranged for the injured inmate to be transported to a hospital.
Before leaving the jail, the victim told a deputy that Willis was responsible for the attack.
Prosecutors said the surveillance footage corroborated the victim’s identification.
The victim suffered multiple stab wounds but recovered after receiving hospital treatment.
Willis Pleads Guilty, Receives 25-Year Sentence
On October 13, Willis pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and possession of prohibited items by inmates.
He was sentenced to 25 years, with the first 12 years to be served in custody, under the First Offender Act.
District Attorney Anita R. Howard said the conviction reinforced the responsibility to protect people inside correctional facilities.
“Everyone in a jail, whether they are held there or work there, has the right to be safe,” Howard said. “This defendant tried to hide his identity, and the evidence left no doubt about who was responsible. Being in custody does not put anyone beyond accountability, and this sentence reflects that.”
Willis Has Other Pending Criminal Cases
At the time of the August 2023 stabbing, Willis was being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on aggravated assault charges stemming from a separate incident on June 5, 2023.
That case and other criminal matters involving Willis remain pending.
The jail stabbing case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney M. Kamran Zahid.
