Woman Found Dead in Restroom at Atlanta Airport; Georgia Bureau of Investigation Investigating

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a woman who was found with apparent self-inflicted stab wounds inside a restroom at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.
The investigation began after the Atlanta Police Department requested assistance from the GBI.
According to investigators, a detective with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Police Department noticed a woman walking around the airport in visible distress at approximately 5 a.m.
The detective approached the woman and offered to help her get home, but she declined the assistance and said she needed an ambulance.
The detective requested emergency medical services.
Before paramedics arrived, the woman told the detective she needed to use the restroom. The detective directed her to the nearest restroom and waited outside.
A short time later, another person exited the restroom and alerted the detective to an emergency inside.
The detective entered and found the woman suffering from multiple apparent self-inflicted stab wounds, according to the GBI.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released her identity, age or hometown. Investigators also have not disclosed what circumstances may have contributed to the incident.
The woman’s body was transported to the Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of death.
The GBI emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
