Five Men Wounded in Shooting Near Mercer University Drive in Macon

MACON, Ga. – Five men were wounded in a shooting Wednesday night near the intersection of Anthony Road and Mercer University Drive, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting was reported to the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center at approximately 8:53 p.m. Sept. 23.

Deputies responded after receiving a ShotSpotter alert and reports of gunfire in the area. When deputies arrived, they began searching the scene and investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Authorities later learned that five gunshot victims had been taken by private vehicles to local medical facilities.

The victims include a 23-year-old man, a 24-year-old man and three 18-year-old men, according to the sheriff’s office.

All five suffered gunshot wounds and received medical treatment. Medical staff reported that all five were in stable condition.

The sheriff’s office has not released the victims’ names or disclosed whether investigators believe the men were together when the shooting occurred.

No arrests or suspect descriptions have been announced, and authorities have not said what may have led to the gunfire.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is investigating.
