Atlanta Woman Gets Life Sentence for Intentionally Running Over and Killing Woman After Argument

DECATUR, Ga. – An Atlanta woman has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, plus 10 years, after a jury found her guilty of intentionally running over and killing a 53-year-old woman outside a DeKalb County motel following an argument involving the victim’s daughter.

Talisha Moore-Real, 35, was sentenced Tuesday, Sept. 1, by DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Tangela Barrie for the Sept. 29, 2025, killing of LaQuita Baker.

A jury convicted Moore-Real on Aug. 7 of malice murder, felony murder, three counts of aggravated assault and first-degree cruelty to children.

The confrontation began at a motel in the 3700 block of Flat Shoals Road, where Baker’s daughter and Moore-Real had argued over a man, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.

Baker’s daughter was dating a man Moore-Real had previously dated.

After an exchange of words, Moore-Real intentionally rammed a vehicle belonging to one of Baker’s relatives and drove away, prosecutors said.

Moore-Real later circled back to the motel and began arguing with her former boyfriend, who was also at the property.

She drove away again, and the man fired shots at her rental car. Moore-Real called 911 to report the gunfire, according to prosecutors.

About six minutes later, Moore-Real returned to the motel parking lot.

Prosecutors said she drove toward Baker, Baker’s daughter and another relative who was 17 years old at the time.

Baker attempted to move out of the vehicle’s path, but Moore-Real aimed directly at her, striking Baker and running over her before leaving the scene, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Surveillance cameras at the motel and a neighboring gas station captured the fatal collision.

DeKalb County police were called to the motel around 10:40 p.m. and arrived to find paramedics treating Baker. She was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A witness photographed the license plate on Moore-Real’s vehicle, allowing investigators to trace it to a rental car company at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Moore-Real had returned the rental vehicle, and the company turned it over to detectives.

Police later arrested Moore-Real.

During an interview with investigators, Moore-Real said she had not seen anyone in front of the vehicle and did not intend to hit anyone, according to prosecutors. The District Attorney’s Office said surveillance video contradicted her account.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Nolan Slifko prosecuted the case with assistance from Senior Assistant District Attorney Ellie Harris and District Attorney Investigator Jeremiah Lamb. DeKalb County Police Detective Kitchen led the initial investigation.
