Bibb County Inmate Sentenced to 40 Years After Series of Jail Assaults, Stabbings and Fire

MACON, Ga. – A Bibb County inmate accused of committing a string of violent crimes while already behind bars has been sentenced to 40 years after pleading guilty to felony charges spanning nearly a dozen separate criminal cases.

Jaives Fountain pleaded guilty on Monday, August 17, 2026, to every felony count against him stemming from incidents during his incarceration at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Fountain received an aggregate sentence of 40 years, with the first 20 years to be served in confinement and the remaining 20 years on probation.

According to the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, Fountain’s cases included multiple attacks on fellow inmates, possession and use of homemade weapons, threats against jail employees, property damage, setting a fire inside his cell and inappropriate contact with a female corrections officer.

Inmate Stabbed During Group Attack

One of the most serious incidents occurred in 2022, when prosecutors said Fountain and several other inmates dragged a fellow inmate from his cell and beat him.

The victim fought back and armed himself with a broom handle. Fountain and the other inmates later returned and ransacked the man’s cell.

When the victim subsequently approached the group, prosecutors said the inmates swarmed him. Fountain pushed past several of his co-defendants and stabbed the man multiple times.

A judge rejected Fountain’s claim that he acted in self-defense. Fountain accepted a plea offer during the weekend before the case was scheduled to go to trial and received the maximum 20-year sentence for Aggravated Assault.

That sentence runs concurrently with sentences stemming from four other cases during the same period of incarceration.

Those cases included Fountain allegedly brandishing a shank and threatening a jail employee, participating with another inmate in an assault, being caught on surveillance video possessing a shank on two separate occasions and damaging his cell and a neighboring inmate’s cell.

Fire Set Inside Jail Cell

Fountain also pleaded guilty to offenses involving attacks on two inmates inside their cells and a stabbing during a fight in the jail showers.

In another case, Fountain was accused of inappropriately touching a female corrections officer.

Prosecutors said Fountain also started a fire after jail employees denied him access to the day room while a headcount was underway. Fountain lit a rag on fire inside his cell and threw the burning material at a control booth window.

“Nearly a dozen separate criminal cases from inside a single jail tells you everything you need to know about this defendant,” Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Anita Howard said, noting that the incidents were captured by jail surveillance cameras.

Howard said the 40-year sentence holds Fountain accountable for his repeated conduct while protecting the community from further violence.

Assistant District Attorney M. Kamran Zahid prosecuted the cases.
