Two Arrested on Murder, Gang Charges in Fatal Shooting of Hazlehurst Teen
HAZLEHURST, Ga. – Two suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Hazlehurst earlier this month.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, 17-year-old Tyzhawn Corouthers and 18-year-old Donaven Smith, both of Hazlehurst, have each been charged with:
- Murder
- Aggravated Assault
- Two counts of Violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act
The charges stem from the death of 16-year-old Terrance McCoy of Hazlehurst.
Teen Found Fatally Shot
The investigation began after the Hazlehurst Police Department requested the GBI’s assistance following a shooting on the evening of Aug. 5, 2026.
Officers responded to Carey Street in Hazlehurst, where they found McCoy suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
McCoy’s body was transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was conducted.
Suspects Arrested Two Days Later
Corouthers and Smith were arrested on Aug. 7, 2026, by the GBI and the Hazlehurst Police Department.
Both were booked into the Jeff Davis County Jail.
The Georgia State Patrol and the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrests.
Investigation Continues
The GBI said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
