ATLANTA, Ga. – A man wanted in connection with a 2021 homicide and listed among the Atlanta Police Department’s Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives has been arrested in Athens-Clarke County, authorities announced.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, homicide investigators, assisted by federal law enforcement partners and the Athens-Clarke County SWAT team, arrested 24-year-old Darius Williams on July 21.

Williams was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Oct. 16, 2021, in the 2300 block of Niskey Lake Road Southwest.

Police said officers originally responded to the location after receiving reports of a person who had been shot. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound inside a vehicle in the roadway.

Grady EMS responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

During a search of Williams’ residence following his arrest, investigators said they discovered multiple driver’s licenses from several states bearing different names. Detectives believe Williams used the false identities to evade capture while he remained a fugitive.

Williams was transported into custody following his arrest.
