Woman Wounded After Gunfire Erupts from Wooded Area in Jonesboro
JONESBORO, Ga. – An investigation is underway after a woman was struck by gunfire while sitting outside a residence Monday in Jonesboro, according to the Clayton County Police Department.
Officers responded to the 1000 block of Iris Walk after receiving reports of a person who had been shot.
When officers arrived, they found an adult woman inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound. Police said her injuries are not considered life threatening.
According to the preliminary investigation, the victim and her boyfriend were sitting on the back patio when approximately two gunshots were fired from a nearby wooded area.
Investigators said the couple immediately ran inside the residence, where they realized the woman had been struck by one of the bullets.
Officers searched the wooded area surrounding the home but did not locate any suspects.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is listed in stable condition.
The Clayton County Police Department said the shooting remains under active investigation.
