GBI Investigating Fatal Shooting That Killed McDonough Man in Mitchell County
BACONTON, Ga. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office with an investigation into a fatal shooting that left a 23-year-old McDonough man dead and another man wounded Wednesday evening.
According to the GBI, Ronald Hyson, 23, of McDonough, died after suffering gunshot wounds during the incident. A 22-year-old man was also shot and remains in stable condition.
The shooting investigation began after Mitchell County 911 received a hang-up call at approximately 6:38 p.m. on July 8 from the area of School Street in Baconton.
Deputies with the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area but were unable to locate anyone connected to the call.
About 15 minutes later, at approximately 6:53 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a local hospital after receiving reports that two individuals with gunshot wounds had arrived for treatment.
Hyson was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second victim was treated for his injuries and is listed in stable condition.
The GBI said Hyson’s body will be transported to the agency’s Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
