14-Year-Old Drowns at Armuchee Park, Investigation Underway
ARMUCHEE, Ga. — A 14-year-old has died following a drowning at Armuchee Park, according to the Rome-Floyd Fire Department and the Floyd County Police Department.
Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 8:30 p.m. on June 29 after receiving reports of a person in distress in the water near Armuchee Park.
Firefighters and police officers immediately began a coordinated search and rescue operation.
According to the Rome-Floyd Fire Department, rescue personnel searched the water using kayaks and in-water search techniques before locating the victim.
Despite the rapid response, the 14-year-old was found unresponsive and was later pronounced dead. The body was turned over to the Floyd County Coroner’s Office.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The Floyd County Police Department has opened a death investigation with assistance from the Rome-Floyd Fire Department. Officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available and is appropriate for public release.
Both agencies extended their condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones following the tragedy.
