Georgia Man Charged With Murder in Fatal Shooting of 19-Year-Old Outside Claxton Business

CLAXTON, Ga. — A Claxton man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that left a 19-year-old dead early Sunday morning, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The GBI announced that 26-year-old Javion Youmans of Claxton has been charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime in the death of Jamari Johnson, 19, also of Claxton.

According to preliminary information, deputies with the Evans County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at approximately 2:30 a.m. on June 14, 2026, at Iron Eagle on Highway 280 in Claxton.

When deputies arrived, they found Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound.

Johnson was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to assist with the case and subsequently identified Youmans as the suspect.

Authorities arrested Youmans and booked him into the Tattnall County Jail.

Johnson’s body will be transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler, where an autopsy will be conducted.

Investigators have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
