Sheriff Cites Strategic Delay in Public Announcement

Bleckley County Sheriff Daniel Cape issued a statement explaining that his office intentionally withheld public details about the case immediately following the response to allow investigators to secure evidence and finalize the arrest without interference.

“When allegations involve a child, we do not waste time,” Sheriff Cape said. “My deputies and investigators moved quickly to secure evidence, protect the victim, and remove the suspect from our community. Our priority was not issuing a press release or talking about the case publicly. Our priority was making an arrest and ensuring there was no continued threat to the safety of our children.”

Following his arrest, Kersey was transported to the Bleckley County Law Enforcement Center, where he remains in custody.

Authorities confirmed the investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone possessing information related to this case or the suspect is encouraged to contact Bleckley County criminal investigators.
