GBI Investigating Roadside Shooting Targeting Cairo City Manager

CAIRO, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has launched an investigation into a roadside shooting targeting Cairo City Manager Booker Gainor in Grady County.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, prompting the Grady County Sheriff’s Office to formally request state-level investigative assistance from the GBI.

According to preliminary details released by state investigators, Gainor was operating a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) at approximately 10:00 p.m. along Aldredge Road, just off Highway 188. Gainor pulled the UTV over onto the shoulder of the roadway to make a phone call when a dark-colored sedan approached his position from behind.

Gainor reported to law enforcement that multiple gunshots were suddenly fired from the direction of the sedan. He was able to drive the UTV away from the scene immediately, escaping the encounter without sustaining any injuries. The vehicle itself was also undamaged.

No suspects have been publicly identified, and the motive behind the shooting remains under active investigation.
