THOMASTON, GA — A 20-year-old mother and a second suspect have been captured in a neighboring county and returned to Upson County to face severe child abuse charges after an infant suffered injuries so severe they required an emergency medical airlift to Atlanta.

Following a multi-week investigation spearheaded by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Cheyanne Saunier faces multiple first-degree felony charges, while her co-defendant, Tripp Allen, has been charged with second-degree child cruelty.

Critical Injuries Trigger Emergency Airlift

The criminal probe was initiated on Sunday, April 12, 2026, when emergency room staff at a regional hospital contacted the Thomaston Police Department (TPD) regarding a pediatric patient brought in with an unexplainable, severe trauma profile indicative of physical abuse.

Medical teams determined the child’s condition was critical, prompting an immediate emergency flight via medical helicopter to a specialized pediatric trauma center in Atlanta. Recognizing the complexity of the cross-jurisdictional injuries, Thomaston Police formally requested the investigative assistance of the GBI on April 17.

Hospital officials have since confirmed that the child survived the initial trauma, has been discharged from the Atlanta facility, and is currently undergoing long-term medical recovery.

Captured in Henry County

As GBI special agents and local detectives built their case, Saunier and Allen left the Thomaston area.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, tracking data located both suspects hiding out in Henry County, Georgia. Regional tactical units moved in, took both individuals into custody without incident, and booked them into the Henry County Jail. Today, May 29, transport deputies formally extradited the pair back to Upson County to face the local magistrate.

Severe Felony Indictments

The two Thomaston residents have been formally booked into the Upson County Jail under the following statutory charges:

Cheyanne Saunier (20):

  • Three Counts: Cruelty to Children in the First Degree
  • Three Counts: Aggravated Battery
  • Two Counts: Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree

Tripp Allen (20):

  • Two Counts: Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree

Under Georgia state law, First-Degree Cruelty to Children and Aggravated Battery are severe felony offenses carrying significant mandatory minimum prison terms upon conviction. GBI officials noted that the investigation into the exact timeline and mechanics of the child’s injuries remains highly active and ongoing.
