Teen Killed, Another Critically Injured in Toombs County Dirt Bike Crash
TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. — A 17-year-old Vidalia resident was killed and another teenager was critically injured Sunday evening following a dirt bike crash on I D Galbreath Road in Toombs County, according to authorities.
The crash occurred on May 10, 2026, at approximately 5:02 p.m., when Toombs 911 Dispatch received a report of a collision involving two off-road motorcycles on the dirt roadway.
Officials said the dirt bikes were being operated by Brody Hutto, 17, of Vidalia, and Les Sturgis, 18, of Uvalda. Callers reported that both riders appeared to have sustained serious injuries.
Deputies arrived at the scene and began providing life-saving medical care until emergency medical personnel arrived. Toombs-Montgomery EMS later took over treatment for both riders.
Authorities said Sturgis was transported by ambulance to a designated landing zone, where he was transferred to the crew of Air Evac 91 in critical condition and flown to Savannah for further treatment.
Hutto died at the scene from his injuries, according to officials.
The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Georgia State Patrol because the crash involved a fatality. The investigation was later turned over to the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
“We ask that you keep the Hutto and Sturgis families in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate through this difficult time,” Sheriff Jordan Kight said in a statement.
