Burglary Suspect Found Hiding in Marsh After Drone, K9 Search in Glynn County
GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — A burglary suspect was located and arrested after attempting to hide in a marsh during an early morning search aided by a drone and K9 unit, according to the Glynn County Police Department.
Officers responded around 4:16 a.m. May 2 to a reported burglary at 3099 Highway 99, where surveillance cameras captured a man removing items from the property.
Police said responding officers launched a coordinated search using a drone and K9 unit. Investigators located a bicycle and other items believed to belong to the suspect at the scene.
During the search, the drone operator spotted a man lying in a marsh nearly half a mile from the property. Officers were guided to the location in real time, and the K9 unit issued commands for the suspect to surrender.
The suspect complied and was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities identified the suspect as Robert Byrd. He was transported to the Glynn County Detention Center and charged with possession of tools for the commission of a crime, a felony, and criminal trespass, a misdemeanor.
Investigators said additional items and tools believed to have been used in the burglary were recovered.
Chief Sipe said the case highlights how technology and trained personnel can work together to safely resolve incidents.
