Two Arrested in Connection to McRae-Helena Shooting That Injured Two
MCRAE-HELENA, Ga. — Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting that left two people injured at a block party in April, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities said Jermaine Lamont Robinson, 23, of McRae-Helena, and Xavier Noel Johnson-Orozco, 24, of Cochran, were taken into custody following the investigation into the April 18 incident.
Robinson is charged with possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer, tampering with evidence and obstruction. Orozco faces charges including possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, two counts of tampering with evidence, drive-by shooting and obstruction.
The shooting occurred around 11:35 p.m. near Scury Street and First Street, where McRae-Helena Police Department officers were on patrol and heard gunfire coming from a nearby block party.
As officers responded, they spotted a vehicle leaving the area and attempted a traffic stop. Police said the driver refused to stop, leading to a short pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed. Several individuals fled the scene on foot.
Robinson was taken into custody at the crash site. Orozco later turned himself in to the Eastman Police Department.
Both men were booked into the Telfair County Jail.
Officials said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
