Babysitter Arrested After 3-Year-Old Fatally Shot in Atlanta, Body Cam Footage Released
ATLANTA, Ga. — Atlanta police have released new details and body camera footage in the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old child earlier this month, as one suspect is now in custody and another remains at large.
Officers responded around 12:37 a.m. on April 5, 2026, to a reported shooting near the 900 block of Washington Street Southwest. When they arrived, they found a 3-year-old child with a gunshot wound.
The child was transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Homicide investigators launched an investigation and later developed probable cause to charge two individuals: 71-year-old Barbara Edwards and 35-year-old Jermaine Hardeman.
Both are facing charges of felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and cruelty to children in the second degree.
On April 13, officers located Edwards at a residence on the 2900 block of Landrum Drive in Southwest Atlanta, Georgia, and took her into custody without incident. She was booked on charges of murder, cruelty to children, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Hardeman remains outstanding, and police have not released additional details about his whereabouts.
Authorities emphasized that the information released remains preliminary and could change as the investigation continues.
The case remains under active investigation.
