AUGUSTA, Ga. — A 28-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 4-year-old child, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded late Friday, April 10, 2026, after a 911 call requested emergency medical services to a home on Edgeworth Drive for an unresponsive child. The child, identified as Niomi Rose, was under the care of Collin Aaron Aber at the time.

First responders found the child unresponsive with visible injuries. Life-saving measures were attempted before she was transported to WellStar MCG Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on April 11.

Authorities said Aber and another individual, identified as Linda Rose, left the scene before deputies arrived. A vehicle believed to be connected to the incident was later located near the hospital. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, Linda Rose exited the vehicle while Aber fled, leading officers on a pursuit.

The chase ended near Curry Street and Division Street, where investigators said Aber exited the vehicle armed with a handgun and forced his way into a residence belonging to his father. Officials initially were unsure if the occupant was being held against his will.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team responded and attempted to negotiate for several hours. The residence was later breached, and Aber was taken into custody without further incident.

Aber has been charged with murder in connection with the child’s death. Authorities said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
