Inmate Found Unresponsive Dies At Richmond County Detention Center
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate found unresponsive early Monday morning at a Richmond County detention facility.
On March 16, 2026, at approximately 5:32 a.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an unresponsive inmate at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
Upon arrival, deputies and detention staff located the inmate, identified as 38-year-old Daniel Morgan, alone in an isolation cell and unresponsive. Facility personnel immediately initiated medical response procedures.
Morgan was pronounced deceased at the detention center.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the official cause of death.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office fully cooperating.
