Suspect Arrested In Rockdale County Fatal Shooting After Reported Home Robbery

CONYERS, Georgia – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred during what was initially reported as an armed robbery in Rockdale County.

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., 911 received a call from occupants inside a home in the 4000 block of Boardwalk in Conyers. While deputies were en route, additional information indicated that a person had been struck in the head and was bleeding.

When deputies arrived, they located one individual suffering from a head injury. That person was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Inside the home, deputies found a second individual who had sustained gunshot wounds. That victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, deputies developed leads that identified a suspect as Ervin Spooner.

In the early morning hours of March 16, Spooner was located at his residence in Hampton, Georgia. With assistance from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Team, he was taken into custody without incident.

Spooner was booked into the Rockdale County Jail and is charged with felony murder.
