Deputy Injured During Walton County Confrontation With Armed Suspect
Monroe, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing a use of force incident involving deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4th at a home off Carriage Court in Monroe.
Deputies were inside the residence conducting a criminal investigation when the suspect allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife.
Authorities said one deputy deployed a Taser, causing the suspect to fall to the ground.
Before deputies were able to secure the knife, the suspect injured himself.
Deputies immediately began rendering aid until emergency medical personnel arrived.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Officials said one deputy was also injured while attempting to secure the knife from the suspect.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Once completed, the case will be submitted to the Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
