Suspect Arrested in Atlanta in Connection With January Homicide in Augusta

Augusta, GA — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this year in Augusta, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the shooting took place on January 22, 2026, in the area of Yates Drive and Susan Circle.

Investigators identified the victim as Miguel Jean Karlos Rodriguez Cruz, who died after being shot during the incident.

On March 3, 2026, officers with the MARTA Police Department in Atlanta arrested Isaiah Romont Santos Thomas in connection with the case.

Thomas was initially taken into custody and held at the Fulton County Jail on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Officials said Thomas has since been transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center in Augusta.

He remains in custody on the listed charges as the investigation continues.
