Athens Driver Charged With DUI, Homicide by Vehicle After E-Bike Rider Dies From Crash Injuries
ATHENS, Ga. – A driver has been charged following a crash that left an electric bicycle rider dead after being struck from behind Saturday night on Olympic Drive, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
Officers responded at approximately 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21 to an injury crash involving a 2013 BMW 650i sedan and a GS5 740W electric bike traveling westbound near the intersection of Athena Drive in Athens, GA. Investigators said the BMW struck the bicyclist from the rear.
The bicyclist, identified as 37-year-old Kul Chokhal of Athens, was treated at the scene by National EMS and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Police said Chokhal died from his injuries on Feb. 23.
The driver of the BMW, Terrence Terrell White, 45, of Athens, has been charged with driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle, following too closely, and serious injury by vehicle. White was on probation for a previous conviction.
